Simple CRB

A project to make CRB checks cheaper, faster and more effective for the voluntary sector.  The aim is to bring together all the demand for CRB checks across the sector so we can create an easy to use and cheap online system. At the moment to get an online service you either have to be very large or pay over the odds for it to an umbrella body.

We are keen to get the feedback of organisations who need to carry out CRB checks via our survey or our website  To develop the very best service we want to gather people’s views on the current problems and issues with CRB checks, along with any ideas for improvements widely.  We’re also interested to speak or hear from individuals who’ve had problems getting their own checks done. All our findings will also be fed in to the government review of the system.

We’re also particularly interested to speak organisations who would like to get more involved in the development of the service and/or sign up to be users along with any organisations interested in being media case studies for us.  Get in touch direct with me on anna@simplecrb.com

Finally, we hope to be able to launch SimpleCRB in the first half of 2011 and to saving you lots of time and money!

YDL – “I have a dream”

The statement above could be true for all of us and none more so than all of the young ones involved in RADAR’s current youth project – Young Disabled Leaders. Their dream is to have their skills and talents recognised and showcased to achieve a brighter future for all.

Young Disabled Leaders is a joint project between CSV and RADAR, funded by the Young Foundation. This project that has seen RADAR enter new territory, that of the youths of this country. The project is aimed towards working with inspiring young people with a disability to encourage them and give them the support they want to get motivated and on the road to achieving their true potential.

Working towards achieving that aim, this exciting new project is unearthing hidden and valuable talents in the young participants. One exercise, based on the popular series ‘Dragon’s Den’, saw these quiet, unassuming characters turn into business moguls that could have given Alan Sugar a run for his money. Seeing their grit and determination to secure, hypothetical, funding made all in attendance marvel at their confidence and eloquence. One has to wonder why we have never seen someone with a disability on a show like ‘The Young Apprentice’ or its grown-up version ‘The Apprentice’. It would be great to show the country what untapped talents lie dormant in these ones.

That said, the events are not all board-rooms and pitches. We recently held our second event for the north of England in the beautiful surroundings of St John’s School for the deaf, Boston Spa. It truly was a fantastic venue for a fantastic day. Everyone braved the snow and rain and all agreed it was definitely worth it. Flower pots, mission impossible tasks, Dragon’s Den and spelling gymnastics – it was fun packed to say the least.

The Northern event closely followed the successful second event for London. A very impressive venue in London saw young ones from across London come together for a day of activity. One of the trainers, Tony, a very experienced and well-known director, showed us how to be good leaders in his own unique and dramatic approach.

In both events we have really seen some amazing skills coming through from all in attendance. We have learnt that leading doesn’t always mean being in the limelight, at the front, or being the loudest. Many things are involved in being a leader and it seems that the young ones have these attributes in the sack-full.

Abdi Gas the events coordinator for RADAR said, “For me, this programme has been an inspiration. As someone who grew up wanting to be the Prime Minister but having no-one to guide me on the right path, I feel privileged to be able to play a part in developing the leadership skills of the younger generation. Seeing these ones on their own personal journey is remarkable – seeing them coming out of their shells and becoming the people that we know that they can be stands as testament to the value of a project like this and to the dedication of all of those involved. I am sure that the faces we see in this project will go on to realise not only their but many other’s dreams.”

TIBER FEEDBACK #6

For my project I am still in the planning process. I have one quote from a company to fit Wi-Fi fitted and I am still enquiring to see if any other companies to see what will be the best value for money. For the door entry system I enquired how much it would be to have that fitted, the price seemed reasonable. When we got the price back from the builders on how much the work needed in the building would cost we were pleased to see that for a very low price woe could get the building done up. In the price entry system would be changed so that each tenant would get a key that fitted the main entrance and there office only. We have decided to put money for the door entry in that as we have concluded that would be the best option. My project still has a lot and you will be informed on the progress made.

TIBER FEEDBACK #5

Concurrently I am still in the planning process and have yet to spend any money. So far I have finalised what I need and summarised what the overall budget for the project will be. I am also trying to find ways in which I will be able to cut various expenditures to enable more activities available for the targeted young people on the overall day. I have also been able to decide who the volunteers will be although the confirmations from those to be asked need to be finalised. I have had meetings with a selection of children from different backgrounds to decide what it is they might expect on the day and meetings with various parents are to be also expected in the coming weeks to ensure their input within the project as w ell as letters being sent out to them to inform them of the coming events.

TIBER FEEDBACK 3

So far mine and Thyra’s dance project we have looked at a range of websites for iPods and speakers we found a sale but there wasn’t much of a difference in the pricing of the speakers so we are still looking elsewhere. We are also going to view some hoodies at the printers on Friday as we have Identified these certain printers are the cheapest from the others that we compared.

TIBER FEEDBACK #1

Hi

So far in our project we have not spent any of the money that I Do Ideas have given us for the meeting room refurbishment. However we have emailed design company Team Ago Go to inquire   about their designer conference table and chairs that they where offering us for a discount price.  We are still negotiating  the price with them via email at the moment as the price first given to us before the presentation was slightly higher than the amount of money that we received.

Will keep you informed
